Father Edward Neil Magnus worked at Archbishop Keough High School from 1969-1972, alongside Joseph Maskell, another well-known abuser. Many survivors whom Maskell sexually abused reported that Magnus participated in and witnessed the abuse. In 1970, one survivor approached Magnus seeking help, but he advised her to stay away from Maskell.
In 1992, a woman reported that Neil Magnus and Joseph Maskell sexually abused her in the late 1960s at Keough. Several credible reports of Magnus abusing young men and women have emerged since then, including instances of rape, voyeurism, and sexual assault. In some cases, Maskell and Magnus were reported to have been assisted in their abuse by a police officer. The Archdiocese has settled with several survivors regarding Magnus’s history of abuse. He died on November 27, 1988.
