Father Ronald Mardaga was ordained on November 29, 1980. In 1986, a man reported that Mardaga sexually abused him at approximately thirteen. The abuse included anal and oral rape, kissing, and masturbation and lasted roughly two years. Mardaga admitted to the abuse, and the Archdiocese removed him from his assignment and suspended his priesthood faculties. The Archdiocese expressed a desire for Mardaga to avoid criminal charges, and an agreement was reached with the State’s Attorney’s Office for Mardaga to undergo psychiatric evaluation and comply with any recommended treatment plan instead of prosecution. The Archdiocese made efforts to restore Mardaga’s priestly faculties, sending him for psychiatric evaluations and treatment. Mardaga refused inpatient treatment recommendations and eventually requested to be dispensed from the obligations of Holy Orders. His request was granted in 1992, and no charges were filed.
