On April 5, 2007, a woman reported that Patrick McIntyre sexually abused her brother around 1980 when he was in 7th grade at Bishop John Neumann School. McIntyre had spent significant time with the boy, hugged him frequently, and made inappropriate comments. In a follow-up interview, the survivor revealed that McIntyre had hugged him while both naked in a dressing room. McIntyre denied any inappropriate activity but was suspended from teaching due to the lack of credibility in his denials. The Archdiocese reported the incident to the authorities and notified parents at Immaculate Conception School, where McIntyre was teaching. McIntyre was subsequently fired, and his name was added to the Archdiocese’s list of individuals not eligible for hire or service.
There was also an incident of possible sexual misconduct involving McIntyre and a cousin, according to a former co-worker’s recollection. There is little information about this incident, though notes show McIntyre denied allegations of misconduct but “offered vague recollections of police questioning about a sexual accusation from a cousin.” The Archdiocese discovered that “not all screening and child protection requirements for McIntyre had been completed.”
On July 18, 2019, a man reported that McIntyre sexually abused him in 1981 at Bishop John Neumann Middle School when he was twelve years old. McIntyre had put his hands down his pants and grabbed his buttocks while the victim was locked in a room with McIntyre and two other teachers. McIntyre has not been listed as credibly accused by the Archdiocese because their list currently only includes clergy, and McIntyre was a lay teacher.
