Wehrle, William (Jesuit Fr.)

Father William Wehrle was ordained on June 18, 1950. Reports of Wehrle sexually abusing young girls were made in 1985, spanning the previous few years. Wehrle’s abuse is reported as having little girls sit on his lap, and taking inappropriate photographs of children. Wehrle was moved from posting to posting, at one-point Wehrle was sent to a sex clinic in NC. His abuse was known to church authorities for at a least a decade prior to his death. The Archdiocese did not make the mandated report of sexual abuse to authorities until 2002. His abuse is suspected to have lasted from the 1960’s to 1980’s.
