In December 2017, a survivor reported that Father Ronald Belschner sexually abused him several times at St. Gregory the Great in 1975 and 1976. In October 2020, another man said that Belschner sexually abused him between 1976 and 1979. In 1990, several staffers and parishioners at the St. Mary’s rectory raised concerns over Belschner’s sexual remarks, alcoholism, and possible pedophilia. Concerns over Belschner’s involvement with a 19-year-old parish staffer and refusal to terminate the relationship, combined with several complaints from parishioners, led to his termination in 1991. He agreed to a treatment program but did not follow through.
