Father Joseph Krach was ordained in 1957. In 1968, two priests reported concerns about Joseph Krach’s behavior with boys to Cardinal Shehan. Krach was accused of having “problems with altar boys” and engaging in “overly affectionate” behavior. Despite these complaints, no action was taken to identify victims or restrict Krach’s access to children. In 1981, Krach was arrested for soliciting an undercover policeman.
In October 1990, a 32-year-old man reported that Krach had sexually abused him, to which Krach admitted to engaging in inappropriate touching. During a spiritual assessment, Krach acknowledged involvement with young men and past allegations of sexual improprieties with teenage boys. He was placed in residential treatment and received recommendations for restricted ministry involvement with adolescents and young adults. Ultimately, Krach retired early with certain benefits but remained listed as a priest with faculties. There is no record of any attempt by the Archdiocese to identify victims or disclose the information publicly. Joseph Krach died on January 19, 2013.
