Father Gerard Bugge, also known as Gerard Serafin, has multiple credible accusations of sexual abuse against him. In 1985, he was arrested for driving under the influence and engaging in sexual contact with a minor. While the child abuse charges were dismissed, Bugge admitted to inappropriate sexual activities. The Archdiocese of Baltimore removed his ministry faculties. In 2018, a survivor reported being brought into a closet and raped by Bugge in 1975 when they were about eight years old in Bugge’s Sunday school class at St. John’s in Severna Park, Maryland. Bugge was listed as credibly accused by both the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 2002 and the Archdiocese of Harrisburg in 2018. Gerard Bugge died on November 20, 2004.
