Msgr. Thomas A. Whelan was ordained on June 13, 1941. In 2002 a victim emailed the archdiocese reporting that she was sexually abused by Whelan. In the 1950’s Whelan was friends with the victim’s parents. At a gathering in the victim’s home, Whelan told the victim to stay inside while everyone else went outside. He tickled her, and then molested her. The victim was 6 years old at the time. Whelan had a known drinking problem and may have been drunk when he abused the victim. He was involved in a drinking and driving collision in 1973, which killed an elderly woman.
