Father Robert Hopkins was ordained on May 22, 1948. There are many credible accusations of abuse against him. On June 22, 1995, Hopkins admitted to orally and anally raping two young boys at the Church of the St. Mary of the Annunciation and on several trips to Philadelphia, Orlando, and Virginia. On July 11, 1995, Hopkins identified eleven survivors by name and parish, including St. Patrick Catholic School, St. Mary in Lonaconing, Our Lady of Hope, St. Jerome’s, and St. Mary in Cumberland. Hopkins remained a retired priest without faculties and was financially supported by the Archdiocese until he died in 2006.
