Father Michael Spillane was ordained on December 20, 1968. Spillane sexually abused at least six boys over a 20-year span beginning in the 1960’s. Spillane admitted to the abuse when he checked into a treatment facility in 1985. In 1991 a survivor reported that Spillane sexually abused him from 1975-76 while he was an altar boy. Spillane took nude photos of him, masturbated in front of him, and orally raped him. In 2002, a survivor reported that when the when he was thirteen, Spillane touched his crotch while both were clothed. Later, both went skinny dipping and Spillane hid the victim’s swimming suit. Spillane continued the abuse into his adulthood. Spillane abused another teenage survivor, exposing himself and committing oral rape. The Archdiocese removed Spillane’s ability to perform sacraments in 1991, but his work for the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commission continued until 2002.
