Father Edmund Stroup was ordained on June 5, 1949. Multiple survivors reported Stroup abused them throughout his career, but these accusations were not reported to authorities until after Stroup’s death in 2002, after which several more survivors came forward to report abuse by Stroup. In 1975 a woman reported Stroup to the Archdiocese for assaulting her son. Stroup was made to take a “short sabbatical” and join Alcoholics Anonymous. In 1981, Stroup was arrested for fondling a minor. In 1992 a survivor reported Stroup sexually assaulted him as a young boy while on a trip to Florida in the early 1960’s. The Archdiocese suspended Shroup’s faculties but did not report the incident to authorities. After Stroup’s death on March 12, 2001, five more survivors came forward.
