Simms, David (Fr.)

Father David Smith was ordained on May 19, 1973. In March 2002, a man reported that Smith sexually abused him in 1973 when he was fifteen years old. The abuse occurred in the rectory at St. Mark’s and consisted of fondling and oral rape. The survivor named two other victims, one of which confirmed a sexual relationship with Raum when he was eighteen. The survivor also noted that Raum took 8th grade boys on an annual week-long trip to Ocean City. A settlement was reached with the Archdiocese concerning Smith’s abuse. In October 2002, Smith pled guilty to “perverted practice” and received probation. The Archdiocese is currently paying out his retirement benefits.
